Two years ago we have tested early version of this software and that time in our LuxRiot Review we have criticized this software for some glitches and placed it on number 3 in our rating. But even in our first Luxriot review we noted it s progressive client server architecture.

So now for our test we have installed LuxRiot version 1.6.11 and from the start it looked like way more mature software.

First window you see after installation is Network Scan Wizard. It makes automatic search for IP cameras in the given IP range. In our configuration it worked 100 well with AVIOSYS, AXIS, Mobotix and SONY cameras.

Other cameras like Panasonic NS-202 can be added manually via Camera Setup Wizard. For each camera you need to choose camera type, model, IP address, user name and a password.

In Luxriot there is no FPS limiter, but instead you can specify Pause between frames parameter. For example, if you want to have 8-10 FPS you can specify 100 ms Pause. For those who want more control Luxriot offers plenty additional camera parameters – image adjustment, iris control, connection time-out and other.

After you close Settings window and press Next you can modify motion detector settings. On the Source page you can choose the motion detector type – Software or Camera motion detector. By default Luxriot gives priority to camera motion detector. Sensitivity is set for the whole frame – it is very simple. On Exclusion page you can mask some frame areas from motion detector.

The next step is to specify video recording parameters. In Global Recording Parameters you can specify where to store video archive. If you click on Advanced properties you can enable motion and time lapse recording. For motion recording you can limit frame rate and specify post-alarm recording time. Actually we have not found a setting for pre-alarm recording, but probably a good quality of motion detector can replace absence of pre-alarm recording in most applications. Additionally Luxriot software shows a window with recommendations to switch on an option to record video while no motion is detected.

In demo version the user is limited to one camera usage. So to test Luxriot with several cameras we have asked Luxriot sales people to give us a time-limited license key. Actually LuxRiot software requires an activation – you need to receive the confirmation key by phone for that you need to tell them your System Identifier or via Internet. Nowadays many software companies use software activation. But still there are some software products that doesn t require it like popular JVSG CCTV lens calculator

We ve added 8 different network cameras including Arecont Vision, AXIS, Mobotix, Panasonic and Sony. All the cameras worked well from the start if we don t count new model of Mobotix M12 was not in list of compatible cameras, older model M22 worked properly. We have tried to add such unsupported cameras on purpose, to test Luxriot behavior.

PTZ camera Panasonic WV-NS202 was not listed in compatible model list as well, but our try-out with it was mostly successful – PTZ function didn t work, but there were no problems with getting a video stream from this camera.

We have contacted LuxRiot technical people about support of new cameras and they promised us to add the support of these models as soon as we connect these cameras to the Internet and send them the IP addresses and the passwords. The support response was fast and very friendly.

After we have added all the cameras the Luxriot DVR Client starts to show them in the main window. From LuxRiot toolbar you can select predefined screens, like 2 2, 3 3, 9 9, 1 5 and others. There is an option to show/hide motion detection.

To test stability of the software we have closed Luxriot Client and left Luxriot Server running for 24 hours. Next day software was running well. Memory usage was about 120 Megabytes.

For our tests and review we used a PC with Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.5 GHz, some cameras and software motion recording option.

With 6 different network cameras with 640 480 resolution we have got 11 processor load in Server mode and 30 with both Client and Server running. After we added 1 camera with 3 Mpegapixel resolution and we have got 23 Server only and 50 in Client Server mode.

For a megapixel test we have used one 3 Megapixel network camera ArecontVision AV3100.

Also we have tried to lower frame rate using the Pause between frames parameter. With 8 fps the processor load dropped from 30 to 11.

By our experience all this shows – the Luxriot can handle up to 16 two-megapixel cameras on Core Quad servers.

The software has it s own video player. Apart from standard time line function it has one more interesting feature – you can zoom-in, zoom-out and scroll video during playback. In case if you want to have a separate file with your video you can export a part of the video archive into AVI file or JPEG series.

Luxriot video surveillance software offers a good quality and has a fair price. We have placed this software on top of our home video surveillance software rating.
